DETAILS:

1. California Highway Patrol, Riverside office, Cal Fire Riverside County, and San Bernardino County Fire Dept responded to reports of a vehicle that slammed into a telephone pole and was trapped in the vehicle.
2. When units arrived, they found one car against a sheared-off light pole and the driver trapped and losing consciousness.
3. Firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate the victim.
4. He was transported to a local area trauma center, suffering from major injuries.
5. Extrication took 22 minutes.
6. The cause of the collision is being investigated.
