Driver Suspected of DUI After Truck Hit By Train

Peoria Police received reports via BNSF railway staff that a vehicle was struck by a BNSF freight train east of 83rd Avenue along Grand Avenue.

Officers located a pickup truck between Cotton Crossing and 83rd Avenue, that was struck by the train.

The adult male driver was outside the vehicle and claimed to be uninjured.

Officers observed obvious signs of impairment when speaking to the driver.

Officers conducted a field sobriety test and administered a breathalyzer test.

The mans breathalyzer test showed results that were above the legal limit.

He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

The train was brought to an emergency stop and is currently blocking Cotton Crossing at Grand Avenue.

BNSF Staff are on scene inspecting the train for damage and conducting a collision investigation.
