Driver Killed In Wrong Way Freeway Crash | Phoenix

06.12.2022 | 02:00 AM | Phoenix – AZDPS troopers responded to multiple reports of a wrong way driver travelling Northbound in the Southbound lanes of SR-51 near Glendale Avenue around 11:50 PM Saturday night. Moments later additional callers reported a head on collision in the Southbound lanes South of Northern Avenue. Troopers arrived on scene to find a two vehicle collision blocking multiple lanes with one unresponsive driver. Firefighters arrived a short time later and began working to assess the involved patients. One driver was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, the wrong way driver was pronounced deceased on scene. DPS established a hard closure of the Southbound SR-51 between Northern and Glendale Avenues through the early morning hours as they investigated the incident.
