Driver Killed In Fiery High-Speed Houston Crash

A man was killed after an SUV slammed into a tree and caught fire Tuesday night in Houston.

At approximately 10:20 p.m. on August 18, 2026, officers responded to the area of Potomac Drive and Woodway Drive following reports of a fiery crash.

According to HPD Lt. Willkens, the SUV was traveling northbound on Potomac Drive when it crossed the median and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.

The impact caused the SUV to break apart before catching fire.

The male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities said no other occupants were inside the vehicle.

The circumstances that caused the SUV to leave the roadway remain under investigation.
