Driver Hits and Kills Bicyclist and Flees

DETAILS:
- A bicyclist was killed after a speeding vehicle plowed into them Saturday night and did not stop
- CHP Santa Fe Springs officers, along with LA County FD paramedics, were dispatched to the area regarding a vehicle vs bicyclist along the eastbound lanes of Mulberry Drive
- Officers arrived to locate an unknown gendered bicyclist dead in the #1 lane of the eastbound lanes
- According to witnesses at the scene, an unknown vehicle was traveling east on Mulberry Drive at a very high rate of speed before hearing a very loud impact. The vehicle continued driving at a high rate of speed east on Mulberry
- Clothing could be seen scattered all over the roadway across both directions, with vehicle debris scattered across EB lanes
- The point of impact appeared to have been near Greenleaf Avenue, with the body flying at least 400 feet down the road past the railroad tracks toward Painter Avenue
- It is unclear if the bicyclist was crossing the crosswalk near the point of impact
- Reportedly, a second vehicle slammed into the body after the initial hit and run before authorities had arrived. This party pulled over and cooperated with authorities
- Whittier PD arrived to take over the investigation, as the jurisdictional boundary placed it in the city of Whittier
- LASD Aero Bureau assisted in attempting to locate the heavily damaged hit and run vehicle, which was reportedly leaking coolant as it fled, but were unable to locate it
