Driver Extricated after Pursuit Ends Crash

(Per radio traffic: Officers were heard requesting assistance from the air unit in reference to a black sedan they were behind near I-17 and Indian School Road around 12:13 AM. Seconds later, multiple officers were seen converging on a 2 vehicle crash at the intersection of I-17 and Indian School Road. It is unknown if the vehicle was attempting to flee from officers before the crash. Phoenix Fire crews responded to reports of a 2 vehicle crash requiring extrication. Crews arrived on scene and located 1 elderly male trapped inside a pickup truck. The second vehicle, a black Nissan sedan, was occupied by 1 adult male, 1 adult female, and an unidentified toddler. Firefighters quickly began working to extricate the elderly male from the pickup truck. Once cut from the vehicle, the male was transported to a nearby trauma center in unknown condition. The adult male from the black sedan was transported in unknown condition to a local hospital. The adult female and toddler were evaluated on scene but refused transport to a local hospital. The crash resulted in a hour-long closure of the southbound I-17 access road south of Indian School.
