DPS Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle Ends In PIT Maneuver

DETAILS:
- Troopers were dispatched to an agency assist involving a stolen vehicle around 5:00 AM.
- The vehicle was stolen early this morning out of Casa Grande and was being tracked remotely by the Casa Grande Police Department via a GPS tracking device.
- Casa Grand law enforcement notified DPS that the vehicle was entering the I-17 traveling north from I-10 and provided troopers with the vehicle description.
- The vehicle was a red Jeep Patriot.
- Troopers located the vehicle near Dunlap Avenue traveling north on the I-17.
- Multiple troopers converged on the vehicle as it exited Cactus Road.
- The troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle as it approached a red light at the end of the Cactus Road off ramp.
- The vehicle then fled from troopers and re-entered the northbound I-17.
- Troopers quickly initiated a pursuit with the vehicle.
- The suspect attempted to ram a DPS vehicle as troopers attempted to deploy a grappler device near Bell Road.
- That is when a DPS trooper performed a PIT maneuver, causing the suspect vehicle to spin out into the median wall.
- Troopers quickly surrounded the vehicle with guns drawn and began issuing commands.
- The suspect was did not comply.
- Troopers quickly advanced on the vehicle and took the suspect into custody.
- Phoenix Fire crews were dispatched to evaluate the suspect.
- The suspect, a male, was transported to a local hospital for precautionary medical evaluation.
