INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 7.26.25 | 12 PM
LOCATION: Cohasset Rd
AREA/CITY: Chico / Butte County @ Park Fire
DETAILS:
- After 36 hours of extreme fire behavior, the Park fire reached a size of over 125 thousand acres.
- We accessed the town of Cohasset and found dozens of homes destroyed.
- Only a handful of homes survived the blaze when it blew through town early this afternoon.
- Thousands of firefighters and resources are now on the scene as the fire continues to make powerful runs to the east.
- Firefighters spent hours defending and protecting homes on the south side of the fire in Highway 32 as the fire made several attempts to try and jump Highway 32.
- Sadly, there was structure loss during the attempt. However, firefighters were able to save the vast majority of homes, some of which were in the nick of time.
- As the fire pushes east, it reaches an uninhabited deep forest.
- We attempted to access the frighteningly active head of the fire but were cut off by extreme fire behavior in a dense forest, where unsurvivable heat and zero visibility conditions were observed, as some of the video footage shows.
- It has been confirmed that the cause of the fire was arson, and a suspect was arrested for allegedly setting a car on fire and pushing into a gulch, which led to this destructive and uncontrollable fire.
- The final video shows a large house fully involved and collapsing. At the same time, firefighters worked to save several vehicles parked in the driveway heavily impacted by the fully engulfed home.
- You can see the propane tank trying to vent from the heat and pressure while firefighters work to save the vehicles.
- No further details are known.
