Downey: Dashcam Helps Catch Hit & Run Driver After Double Fatal Crash (Caught On Camera)
05.23.2020 | 2:30 PM | DOWNEY – A hit-and-run driver that left two people dead was caught with the help of a dashcam and photojournalist who caught the crash on camera, Saturday afternoon.
The collision occurred on the southbound I-5 Freeway just north of Paramount Boulevard around 2:30 PM when a white Fiat 500 rear-ended a red Nissan Sentra forcing it down an embankment.
Both occupants inside the Nissan, a female driver and male passenger, were killed instantly when their slammed head-on into a tree at the bottom of the dirt embankment.
The driver of the Fiat who caused the fatal crash fled the scene without stopping and quickly exited the freeway.
An OnScene.TV photojournalist whose dashcam recorded the crash immediately contacted law enforcement and followed the Fiat off the freeway.
The suspect pulled over at the intersection of Florence and Newville avenues where he exited his vehicle and inspected it for damage before getting back in and continuing to drive away.
Officers in the area finally stopped and detained the driver of the Fiat at the intersection of Florence Avenue and Studebaker Road after being guided in by the photojournalist.
After reviewing dashcam footage of the crash the driver of the Fiat, identified as 24-year-old Cash Rencanzone of Peoria, Arizona, was placed under arrest on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
Police later identified one of the deceased victims as 32-year-old Aide Bustamante of Huntington Beach. The other deceased victim, believed to be the driver, was described only as a female adult.
