Dog & Owner Shot in Drive By Shooting

DETAILS:
- A male and his dog were shot late Wednesday night, prompting police to rush the dog to an emergency animal vet
- Police received calls of shots heard in the area shortly before additional calls came in of a male lying on the sidewalk
- Authorities arrived and discovered a male victim down with a gunshot wound to his lower body, conscious and breathing
- His dog was also shot in the paw and required immediate care
- LBFD paramedics arrived and transported the male to a nearby trauma center
- The suspect, described as a male African American, 35-40 years old with ‘puffballs’ in his hair, fled in a 4-door grey Chevrolet sedan, possibly a Malibu, with red trim around the front and sides of the vehicle
- A police officer transported the dog to 4720 E Pacific Coast Highway, the Long Beach Animal Emergency hospital, in a squad car due to an extended ETA from Animal Control officers. Vets are currently treating the unknown breed dog at this time.
- The intersection of 14th Street & Rose Avenue has been cordoned off, as officers examine the area for evidence. Multiple parked cars were also struck by gunfire in the incident. No other injuries were reported. A lab investigation team is enroute.
