Dodge Charger Burns After Crash with Gas Tanker

A Phoenix Police officer observed a Dodge Charger crash into a Gas Tanker on southbound 51st Ave just south of the I-10 overpass at approximately 2:11 AM.

The Charger quickly burst into flames.

The officer approached the vehicle and found at least 2 occupants still inside.

The officer and additional backup units quickly pulled the injured occupants from the burning car and dragged them to safety.

Fire crews arrived on the scene and began working to extinguish the flames.

Fortunately, the tanker was empty, and residual fuel vapors were purged before the collision.

Several additional fire crews arrived to assist with triaging the two injured patients.

Both were transported in serious condition to a local trauma center.

One person of interest is currently being interviewed by officers on the scene.

It has not been confirmed whether that person was the vehicle’s occupant.

A hard closure has been established for 51st Avenue as officers work to investigate the collision.
