Deadly Shooting Near Marathon Burger Grand Opening
At approximately 3:30pm on March 1st, 2026, Long Beach Police Department officers responded to reports of multiple people shot near Pine Avenue and Broadway Avenue in Long Beach, near the area of Marathon Burger.
Preliminary information indicated up to three individuals were struck by gunfire. At least one victim was confirmed deceased at the scene. Homicide detectives responded to begin an investigation.
Authorities were searching for a possible black Kia sedan believed to be connected to the incident. The motive behind the shooting remained unclear.
The surrounding area remained closed as investigators processed the scene, though the nearby restaurant continued operating within the crime scene perimeter. Some residents in the area believed the shooting may have been connected to the grand opening of Marathon Burger; however, officials had not confirmed any link.
The investigation remained ongoing.
