Deadly Freeway Crash Leaves One Dead In East LA

At approximately 2:33 a.m. on May 23, 2026, emergency crews responded to a major traffic collision on the eastbound 60 Freeway near the Paramount Boulevard exit in the Montebello and East Los Angeles area.

Responding firefighters located a black sedan that had crashed into a wall and fence area along the freeway.

Firefighters took over CPR efforts on one critically injured victim who may have been ejected during the collision, while another trapped occupant was extricated from the wreckage.

Authorities later confirmed one person was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators also reported that one of the drivers involved was seen walking away from the crash scene before officers arrived.

A police air unit equipped with FLIR was requested to assist in searching for the missing driver.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
