Crash Claims Life of 2013 Little League World Series Champion | San Diego

01.22.2022 | 5:16 AM | SAN DIEGO – A male driver traveling in a pickup truck heading Southbound on the I-5 freeway entering Mexico, could not negotiate a curve and struck the concrete K-rail causing major damage to his vehicle. The male was transported to UCSD Hospital with serious injuries. US Custom Border agents provided traffic control until the California Highway Patrol could take over the investigation. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. Traffic lanes were temporarily closed to allow Emergency personnel to transport the driver. UPDATE: 21-year-old Michal Pietila-Wiggs passed away 2 days after crashing into the K-rails at the Port of Entry in Tijuana, Mexico.
