Costa Mesa: Fiery DUI Crash Kills One

11.18.2018 | 11:19 PM | COSTA MESA – A person was dead after a suspected DUI driver rear-ended their vehicle causing it to catch fire, Sunday night.

Police and fire responded to reports of a vehicle fire on the northbound SR-55 at the Baker Street offramp at 11:19 PM.

Units arriving on scene found a sedan with major rear end damage fully engulfed in flames. Another vehicle, a pickup truck with front-end damage, was several hundred feet ahead and blocking lanes.

Firefighters arriving on scene quickly extinguished the vehicle before discovering a deceased individual in the driver’s seat.

Initial reports indicate the driver of the pickup truck rear-ended the sedan causing it to catch fire.

The driver of the truck was placed under arrest on suspicion of DUI.
