Corona: Engineer Suffers Medical Emergency Causing Derailment

11.07.2018 | 11:28 PM | CORONA – Several freight cars derailed after a train’s engineer suffered from a medical emergency, Wednesday night.

Firefighters responded to a reported train derailment shortly before 11:30 PM on the railroad tracks behind the Green River Golf Course near the Orange/Riverside county border.

Radio reports indicated an engineer on the train suffered from a respiratory-type medical emergency before causing several cars to derail.

Units arriving on scene found a freight train of substantial length and located two derailed cars carrying unknown type materials.

The engineer was located by a separate crew to the front of the locomotive and was treated on scene.

No injuries were reported in the crash however numerous tracks were closed while officials worked to clear the scene.

It was unclear whether the scene would be cleared in time for morning Metrolink train traffic.
