Confined Space Rescue Turns into Recovery
INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 8-28-24 4:05 am
LOCATION: Hoyt Park Dr & Scripps Ranch Blvd
AREA/CITY: San Diego
DETAILS:
- A worker is 20 feet down in an open trench where concrete pipes are being laid.
- A 4-foot diameter concrete pipe and dirt fell and landed on the worker.
- He can not be seen, and no noise is coming from him.
- It’s presumed that he is deceased at this point.
- The SDFD USAR team is here to recover the male.
- The two males in the trench were having the pipe lowered to them by the heavy equipment operator and making adjustments when the soil shifted. The pipe and soil landed on one of the workers while the other escaped. The Fire Dept. has stated that they will be working to extricate the victim, and it will take approximately 90 minutes or more.
- CalOSHA has been notified.
