Compton: Pursuit From El Monte Ends With Barricade

04.30.2020 | 11:17 PM | COMPTON – A suspected DUI driver who fled from officers before barricading herself inside her vehicle was taken into custody, Tuesday night.

An El Monte police officer attempted to stop a suspected DUI driver in silver Ford hatchback near Peck Road and the SR-60 Freeway.

The driver of the vehicle failed to yield, leading officers on a pursuit that reached speeds in excess of 120 MPH and continued on the several area freeways.

The female driver eventually came to a stop on Artesia Boulevard just west of Wilmington Avenue where she got into the backseat of the vehicle and barricaded herself around 11:17 PM.

A standoff lasted for about 20 minutes before officers used less-lethal ammunition to stun the suspect before apprehending her.

Paramedics evaluated the suspect on scene but she refused medical treatment.

Officers are continuing to investigate why the female fled.
