Citizens Try to Help Fight Brush Fire | San Diego

6.21.21 | 9:19 AM | SAN DIEGO – A fire broke out for unknown reasons in Tecolote Canyon and citizens took it in their own hands to run towards the burning canyon to fight the fire Monday morning.

San Diego Fire Department Firefighters responded to the area of 3700 Tomahawk Lane around 9:19 AM regarding a reported brush fire in a canyon.
The fire burned uphill from the canyon bottom towards the homes on top and evacuations were conducted by the SDPD on Mt. Almagosa Dr and Mt. Alamagose Pl.

Helicopter water drops were made and the fire was stopped at 1 acre.

8 civilians put themselves in danger as they ran into the fire with shovels and were attempting to help the firefighters. They were wearing running gear, shorts, and flip-flops and were technically interfering as the helicopter was trying to avoid dropping water on them. At one point, they all gathered for a group photo.

Although officials are appreciative for their attempt to help, they highly advise against doing this as the citizens can easily become victims.
