Chula Vista: Trash Truck Driver Escapes Injury After Truck Catches Fire

11.18.2018 | 1:37 PM | CHULA VISTA – A trash truck driver escaped serious injury after the cab of his truck caught fire, Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the intersection of Main Street and the I-805 just after 1:30 PM regarding reports of a large truck fire.

Crews arriving on scene found the the trash truck just west of the I-805 with fire showing from the cab area of the truck.

It took crews several hours to achieve knockdown of the stubborn fire which spread to the truck’s load.

The truck’s load, which contained recyclables, was dumped onto Main Street to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

The road was expected to be closed for several hours while crews loaded the waste into other trucks.

The truck’s driver was uninjured.
