CHP Officer Rescues Two From Burning Car In Riverside

A CHP officer helped rescue two people trapped inside a burning vehicle after a crash Sunday morning on the 60 Freeway in Riverside.

At approximately 9:32 a.m. on August 2, 2026, the California Highway Patrol and Riverside Fire Department responded to eastbound State Route 60 near Day Street following reports of a vehicle over the side with two occupants trapped.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the vehicle on a steep embankment and on fire. The car had nearly gone completely over the side, where it could have fallen approximately 30 feet into a parking lot below.

Before firefighters arrived, a CHP officer helped remove the two trapped occupants from the burning vehicle.

Due to the steep terrain, firefighters established a low-angle rope haul system to bring the driver safely back up the embankment.

The driver’s daughter suffered only minor injuries and was able to walk out from the crash scene.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
