Channel Islands: Diving Boat Fire Leaves Several Dead, Many More Missing
09.02.2019 | 3:27 AM | CHANNEL ISLANDS – Several people were dead and many more were missing after a dive boat became engulfed in flames, early Monday morning.
Authorities responded to reports of a boat fire with crew and passengers in distress off of Santa Cruz Island in the Channel Islands around 3:27 AM.
Crews arriving on scene located a Conception, a 75-foot dive vessel, engulfed in heavy fire with approximately 35 individuals in need of rescue.
A pleasure craft rescued at least five people, all believed to be crew members, but at least 4 were pronounced deceased and another 29 were still missing.
Many researches were continuing to search the area for any survivors.
The boat was reportedly on a three-day dive trip charter when the fire broke out.
