CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Driver Killed In Violent 5-Vehicle Crash On 605 Freeway
One person was killed in a violent five-vehicle crash that shut down the northbound 605 Freeway early Tuesday morning in Cerritos.
The incident began around 12:47 a.m. on October 6, 2026, when CHP received reports of an unknown vehicle blocking lanes on the northbound 605 Freeway just south of the 91 Freeway.
A tow truck driver arrived before first responders and encountered three vehicles involved in a collision with occupants reportedly trapped inside. The tow truck operator entered the roadway and attempted to slow approaching traffic.
While the tow truck driver was standing in the lanes, a gold Cadillac Escalade approached at a high rate of speed and struck the vehicles at the crash scene as well as the tow truck, sending one of the vehicles into a ditch.
Video from the scene shows the tow truck operator jumping out of the path of the approaching SUV and into another lane to avoid being struck.
CHP South Los Angeles officers, who were covering the area and handling the investigation, arrived to find a five-vehicle crash blocking all northbound lanes.
Los Angeles County firefighters located a person trapped inside one of the vehicles and began an extrication. The victim was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP also found one of the involved vehicles unoccupied, and its driver was unaccounted for at the scene.
It remains unclear what caused the initial collision or what led up to the subsequent crash. The northbound 605 Freeway was closed just north of South Street while CHP conducted a fatality investigation.
The tow truck operator who narrowly avoided being struck declined to be interviewed.
