Carlsbad: Wrong-Way Pursuit Leaves Two Dead
01.14.2020 | 12:12 AM | CARLSBAD – A driver who was crashed while driving wrong-way in attempt to flee police died along with the driver of another vehicle who was later identified as a 19-year-old U.S. Marine, early Tuesday morning.
Oceanside police officers attempted to stop a speeding vehicle around 12:00 AM.
The driver of the truck, later identified as 42-year-old Christian Zurita, failed to yield to officers and eventually entered the northbound I-5 Freeway while traveling southbound before crashing head-on into another vehicle.
The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced deceased on scene.
The passenger of the fleeing pickup truck, a 35-year-old San Diego man, was pulled from the wreckage and transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
The driver of vehicle killed by the speeding truck was identified as a 19-year-old Matthew Ryan Adams, a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton.
