Carlsbad: Thousands Flock To Beaches For Bioluminescent Waves Despite COVID-19
05.02.2020 | 9:00 PM | CARLSBAD – Thousands flocked to beaches to see rare bioluminescent waves despite the COVID-19 pandemic and related beach closures, Saturday night.
Authorities responded to reports of beachgoers violating closure orders at the Carlsbad State Beach located in the 7200 block of Carlsbad Boulevard around 9:00 PM.
Officers on scene located thousands of beachgoers who had come to see bioluminescent waves caused by large numbers of dinoflagellates form a bloom.
Due to the number of beachgoers and limited police resources officers sought voluntary compliance and gave verbal warnings to bystanders to leave the area.
