Carlsbad: Suspect Leads Officers On Intense Pursuit (Caught On Camera)
02.02.2020| 2:00 AM | CARLSBAD – A suspect who led officers on a high-speed vehicle pursuit was caught on camera fleeing on foot before officers could catch him, early Sunday morning.
Officers from California Highway Patrol’s Oceanside office attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on the southbound I-5 Freeway near Oceanside Boulevard shortly before 2:00 AM.
The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to officers and fled at speeds in excess of 140 MPH before existing the freeway at Poinsettia Lane and crashing at the intersection of Avenida Encinas and Raintree Drive.
The male driver of the vehicle fled on foot while the female passenger remained in the vehicle.
Shortly after officers received reports of a male who broke into a nearby Best Western hotel room.
As officers arrived on scene the suspect fled and could be seen on video running through a parking lot before climbing a storage container and jumping onto vehicles in attempt to flee.
The foot pursuit lasted nearly 5 minutes and ended with a fight that resulted in multiple taser deployments and police K-9 bites.
It was unclear why the suspect ran or what charges he was facing.
