Carjacking Suspect Barricades Himself After Freeway Crash

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on May 15, 2026, authorities responded to a vehicle theft and barricaded suspect situation near the 14th Street on-ramp to the 91 Freeway in Riverside.

Investigators say a male suspect entered an unlocked vehicle in the area of 14th Street and Lime Street before driving onto the freeway on-ramp and immediately crashing into another vehicle.

After the collision, the suspect reportedly remained barricaded inside the stolen vehicle and refused repeated commands from officers to surrender.

Authorities attempted to use less-lethal rounds to gain compliance, but the suspect continued refusing to exit the vehicle.

A police K9 was eventually deployed, and the suspect was taken into custody before being transported for medical treatment.

The condition of the other driver involved in the crash has not been released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
