Cardiff: DUI Driver Slams Into Vehicle Stopped On Freeway Shoulder
01.19.2019 | 2:50 AM | CARDIFF – A suspected DUI driver was under arrest after slamming into an occupied vehicle stopped on a freeway shoulder, Saturday morning.
Authorities responded to reports of a crash on the northbound I-5 Freeway at Manchester Avenue around 2:50 AM.
Units arriving on scene found a two-car crash with major damage and two patients seriously injured.
Firefighters treated both patients on scene before transporting them to Scripps La Jolla Hospital.
Initial reports indicate the driver of the white sedan pulled to the shoulder to allow a passenger to vomit. While the passenger was outside the vehicle, a suspected DUI driver in a black sedan struck the white car.
The force of the crash injured the driver and passenger inside the white sedan seriously injured.
The third passenger, who was outside the vehicle vomiting, was not injured as a result of the crash.
Officers administered field sobriety tests to the driver of the black sedan and determined them to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was placed into custody and booked on suspicion of DUI with injury.
