Car Flies Off Overpass on to the Freeway

Phoenix Police, DPS, and Phoenix Fire crews responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision at approximately 10:45 PM at the intersection of Indian School Road and I-17.

Preliminary information suggests a sedan collided with a pickup truck in the eastbound lanes of Indian School Road.

The collision caused the pickup truck to overturn and strike a concrete barrier.

The sedan involved veered off the roadway, through a chain-link fence, and plummeted into the active travel lanes of Interstate 17.

The sedan was immediately struck by a pickup truck traveling southbound on the Interstate.

Several additional minor collisions occurred as oncoming traffic attempted to avoid the collision.

Several Phoenix Fire crews arrived on the scene and began working to extricate the driver of the overturned pickup and several trapped occupants inside the involved sedan.

At least three people have been hospitalized with extensive injuries.

Troopers and ADOT have established a hard closure for southbound I-17, diverting all southbound traffic off the mainline at Camelback Road.

Westbound and Eastbound Indian School Road is closed before the I-17.

The Phoenix Police Department will be taking command of the investigation.

Officers and Vehicular Crimes Unit detectives must remain on scene throughout the night and into the early morning hours.
