Car Flies Off Of Freeway and Into River

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 4-13-23 10:14 pm
LOCATION: EB Hwy 54 E/O National City Blvd
CITY: Chula Vista
DETAILS:

1. The male driver of the car was eastbound on Highway 54.
2. He lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason and went into the center divider.
3. The car traveled through the CalTrans fencing and then down the rock-lined channel of the Sweetwater River.
4. The car went into the river.
5. The driver was able to self-extricate and then swim to the shoreline.
6. The Paramedics checked him out, and he was not injured.
7. The car eventually sunk further into the water.
8. Divers will have to come in and hook up the car, so it can be towed out of the river channel.
