Car Flies Off 5 Freeway And Lands On Oceanside Boulevard
A driver was hospitalized early Monday morning after a vehicle reportedly went off the southbound 5 Freeway and landed on Oceanside Boulevard below during heavy rainfall in Oceanside.
On October 12, 2026, at approximately 12:45 a.m., emergency crews responded to reports of a traffic collision near Oceanside Boulevard and Interstate 5.
According to the initial reporting party, a white Volkswagen had gone off the southbound freeway and landed on Oceanside Boulevard. Initial CHP radio traffic also indicated the vehicle was smoking and had sustained front-end damage.
Early radio communications suggested the driver may have required CPR, although that information has not been confirmed.
The driver was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with injuries of unknown severity.
Heavy rain was falling in the area at the time of the collision. However, investigators have not determined whether weather or roadway conditions contributed to the crash.
The California Highway Patrol’s Oceanside Area is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
