California State Park Police Shoot Man In Park On Busy Mothers Day Weekend

***NOTE: THE PARK, CAMPGROUND, AND BEACHES WERE COMPLETELY PACKED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. CAMPERS WHO ARE SEPARATED FROM THE BEACH AREA WHERE THE SHOOTING OCCURRED WERE ALLOWED TO STAY, BUT ANYONE WHO WAS NOT CAMPING AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT WAS MADE TO LEAVE THE PARK. (IT TOOK POLICE ABOUT 2 HOURS TO CLEAR OUT THE PEOPLE, 100’S OF CARS).  THERE WERE SEVERAL LARGE GROUPS AND FAMILIES AT THE PARK AT THE TIME OF THE OIS.

On May 10, 2025, at 6:50 p.m., California State Park Rangers assigned to the Lake Perris State Recreation Area responded to a parking lot within the location after hearing shots fired. Upon arriving in the area, officers contacted a subject who attempted to produce a firearm concealed on his person, resulting in an officer-involved shooting. The subject was struck by gunfire, detained, and provided medical care. He was taken by Park Rangers to a nearby hospital, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. This subject is not being identified at this time.

The scene was secured, and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Force Investigation Detail was requested to respond to the scene to assume the investigation. Due to the ongoing investigation, no further information will be released at this time.

It is believed there are multiple witnesses to this incident that did not speak to law enforcement.
