Calabasas: Kobe Bryant, 13-Year-Old Daughter Among 9 Killed In Fiery Helicopter Crash
01.26.2020 | 9:47 AM | CALABASAS – A fiery helicopter crash left retired Lakers star Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, and seven others dead, Sunday morning.
Authorities responded to reports of a helicopter that crashed into a hillside and burst into flames near Las Virgenes Road and Willow Glen Street around 9:47 AM.
Units arriving on scene located a Sikorsky S-76 helicopter owned by Kobe Bryant that had crashed into the hillside before catching fire.
Flames from the wreckage spread to nearby brush but was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
All nine occupants aboard the helicopter, including 41-year-old Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and a baseball coach from Orange Coast College were pronounced deceased on scene.
Records show the helicopter departed John Wayne Airport in Orange County around 9:06 AM.
Conditions at the time of the crash were foggy but it was unknown if weather factored in the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board along with the Federal Aviation Administration and local authorities are investigating.
