Bystander & Firefighters Fight Large Fire Threatening Evacuated Water Park

DETAILS:
- A large brush fire broke out at La Mirada Regional Park, quickly spreading and threatening a nearby waterpark Tuesday evening
- LA County FD received the call for a tree fire shortly before 6 PM along the 13700 Block of Dalmatian Avenue, which is a tract of homes located immediately adjacent to the area of the park where the blaze started
- The fire quickly grew uphill, catching multiple trees and shrubs on fire with firefighters having difficulty accessing the area
- With the assistance of a bystander, firefighters deployed numerous hose lines across the park to reach the fire. It took about 10 minutes for firefighters to get water on the blaze
- Huge 10+ feet flames could be seen inching closer and closer to the water slide at Splash! Aquatic Center, located behind La Mirada City Hall
- Firefighters requested a second engine to assist in the firefight
- Much of the smoke from this fire drifted into Fullerton and Brea, with numerous residents posting concerns about the smell and sight on social media
- A parkgoer nearby stated they saw a male wearing a hoodie fleeing the scene immediately after the blaze had erupted. It is unconfirmed if this was arson at this time.
- The Splash! Aquatic Center was evacuated and closed early as a result of the fire.
- Most of the flames were knocked down by 6:30 PM. No injuries were reported.
