Brush Fire Burns 3,600+ Acres, Prompts Evacuations
INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 2:02pm 06-15-24
LOCATION: Hard Luck Road just west of the 5 Freeway
AREA/CITY: Gorman
DETAILS:
- Fire began at the Gorman offramp from the SB 5 with a spot north of the onramp as well with structures threatened
- Several vehicles became involved and the fire was spotting a quarter mile ahead of itself, firefighters requested a third alarm.
- Firefighters along with civilians began taking heavy heat at the los alamos fire station and put out radio traffic that they were sheltering in place
- Fire began spotting 3/4 mile ahead itself and an evacuation order was issued for Hungry Valley west of the 5 freeway
- Fire mapped at 3600 acres as of 5:30pm
- Incident is ongoing
- A civilian who had to evacuate from los alamos campground said they left a vehicle and many of their belongings behind
