Brea: Man Shoots Himself In Car While Traveling On Freeway
12.24.2018 | 12:28 AM | BREA – A man with a concealed weapons permit shot himself in the leg while riding as the passenger in a car on a local freeway, early Monday morning.
Officers responded to reports of a man who had shot himself in the leg and was inside a car in the area of Brea Boulevard and Imperial Highway shortly before 12:30 AM.
Units arriving on scene located a man with a gunshot wound to his leg and immediately applied a tourniquet to stop him from bleeding out.
Firefighter paramedics responded and transported the man to an area hospital where he remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police investigating the shooting discovered the man was riding as the passenger in a vehicle on the SR-60 Freeway in Los Angeles County when he shot himself in the leg.
The driver of the vehicle navigated to Brea in attempt to locate a hospital but was unsuccessful later contacted police. For reasons that remain under investigation the driver was taken into custody on scene.
The man who was shot reportedly had a concealed weapons permit and was injured with a 9mm handgun.
Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
