Boyle Heights: Officers Arrest Suspect After Witnessing Double Shooting That Left One Dead
04.15.2020 | 11:00 PM | LOS ANGELES – A homicide suspect was taken into custody after officers witnessed the man shoot two people leaving one dead and another injured and prompting the officers to return fire, late Wednesday night.
Officers from the Los angeles Police Department’s Metropolitan Division were on patrol near the intersection of East Cesar Chavez Avenue and North Savannah Street around 11:00 PM in the Boyle Heights area when they witnessed two suspects open fire on a group.
The gunfire from the suspects struck two individuals prompting officers to shoot at the suspects before they fled on foot.
Firefighter paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced one of the two victims deceased on scene. The second victim was treated on scene and transported to an area hospital in unknown condition.
Police established a large perimeter and utilized a SWAT team to search for the suspects.
After several hours of searching at least one of the suspected shooters was taken into custody.
Investigators are continuing to search for the second suspect and at (877) LAPD-247.
The identity of the victims was not immediately disclosed and it was unclear what prompted the shooting.
