Bizarre Pursuit Ends After Multiple Brief Standoffs | Vermont Vista

05.17.2021 | 12:53 AM | VERMONT VISTA – LASD deputies initiated a pursuit of a Chevy Camaro with a suspected DUI driver.

The driver led deputies on a slow speed chase for approximately 5 minutes before the watch commander requested the units to go into tracking mode.

Once units were in tracking mode, the suspect started driving wrong way and blowing stop signs at times. The suspect stopped multiple times for several minutes at a time, including in a sheriff station parking lot.

The suspect climbed through the window of his car several times, taunting deputies, just to re-enter through his door and speed away.

CHP was requested for assistance as the bizarre pursuit continued. CHP was able to successfully place spike strips in front of the vehicle. However, at least one Sheriff unit sustained damage from the spike strips.

A crowd of bystanders gathered and encouraged the suspect to give up. The suspect finally gave in and surrendered peacefully.
