Big Springs Fire Burns Multiple Acres Close to Homes | Riverside
06.20.2022 | 12:18 AM | RIVERSIDE – Riverside Fire Department and Cal Fire Riverside County responded to a vegetation fire.
When they arrived they found a working fire on the side of the mountain at Approximately 2 acres burning in heavy fuels in riparian area with flashy fuels with a moderate rate of spread within 300 yards of multiple homes.
Crews quickly jumped into offensive mode as multiple small propane containers in the area exploded.
The forward rate of spread has been stopped as of 2:50am, but crews will remain on scene for several hours for mop up.
Battalion Chief estimated that the fire had burned just under 5 acres but they will have a more accurate size when they get light in the morning.
12 Engines, 2 Dozers, 2 HAND CREWS & 2 CHIEF OFFICERS are on scene.
Cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
