Big Bear Snow Causes Cars To Spin Out

LOCATION: Big Bear City
AREA/CITY: Big Bear City
DETAILS:

  1. The roads within the neighborhood of Big Big Bear city are buried under about a 2 inch thick sheet of pure ice.
  2. We call this “sheet ice”
  3. There are vehicles all through out the neighborhood that are spun out and crashed.
  4. Residents could be seen helping some of the crashed cars and their drivers.
  5. Light snow flurries continued to fall off and on during the our time up there.
  6. Earlier this morning, reports that a bus with kids on board was involved in a icy pile up at dawn rd and highway 18.
  7. The incident was resolved by the time we arrived however, CHP reported that the children were transported from the scene by alternate transportation and all were safe there were no injuries.
  8. The main highways of the san bernardino mountains such as highway 18 and highway 330 have been cleared of all ice and snow all the way up to big bear dam.
  9. Chain Control check point has been set up at snow valley for the time being.
  10. In Lake arrowhead, off highway 189 and daly canyon, a pick up truck lost control on the ice and flew off the road and soared almost 200 feet across the intersection, through a snow packed parking lot and up an hill strait into a cedar tree. 
  11. The occupants appeared to be uninjured, however CHP is investigating the incident
