Barricaded Suspect Dies After Explosion | Anaheim

09.12.2021 | 6:15 PM | ANAHEIM – ANAHEIM, Calif. (September 13, 2021) – Larry Carter Jr., a 31-year-old resident of Anaheim, died at a local hospital after barricading himself in his Anaheim apartment. On Sunday, September 12, 2021, at 6:15 p.m., Anaheim Fire and Rescue received an emergency call of a possible explosion at an apartment in the 2600 block of W. Lincoln Avenue. Responding Anaheim Fire and Rescue personnel arrived to find an apartment damaged by an apparent explosion. AF&R personnel were told by witnesses an armed subject was barricaded in the apartment. AF&R requested the assistance of Anaheim Police personnel who confirmed Larry Carter Jr. was barricaded inside the bathroom of the location and armed with a knife. Anaheim SWAT and Tactical Negotiators responded to the scene. Negotiators worked to achieve Carter’s peaceful surrender but he refused to comply. SWAT personnel used Chemical agents to encourage Carter’s surrender but he continued to resist officers’ efforts. Just before 11 p.m., Carter stopped communicating with officers. Believing Carter may have been in need of medical aid, SWAT personnel breached the door and found Carter unresponsive in the bathroom. Carter was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A knife was recovered at the scene. An autopsy of Carter is scheduled for later this week to determine the cause of death. No other individuals were injured during the incident.
