Banning: Apple Fire Grows To Over 20,000 Acres On Second Night
08.02.2020 | 1:00 PM | BANNING – The fast-moving Apple Fire grew to over 20,000 acres and was 0% contained on a second destructive night.
The fire that is believed to be the product of arson broke out Friday around 5:00 PM in the Cherry Valley area outside Banning.
Within two days the fire has grown to 20,516 acres with 0% containment.
Authorities said several buildings and vehicles have been destroyed by the fire.
By 11:00 AM Sunday morningĀ over 1,360 personnel were manning six firefighting helicopters, 307 engine companies, four water tenders, and 24 hand crews to combat the blaze.
About 2,000 people from 400 homes were under evacuation orders in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
Electricity in the area was being shut off to help prevent the fire from spreading.
Arson investigators are working to locate a suspect who witnesses said caused the fire.
