Azusa: Ranch Fire Scorches 600 Acres
08.13.2020 | 2:45 PM | AZUSA – A 600-acre brush fire broke out and was threatening to burn homes, Thursday afternoon.
The fire was dubbed the “Ranch Fire” after it broke out near the intersection of North San Gabriel Canyon Road and North Ranch Road around 2:45 PM.
By 4:30 PM the fire had grown to about 600 acres with no containment reported.
Residents in the Mountain Cove area, south of Highwood Court, were under mandatory evacuation orders as the blaze burned uphill towards the homes.
Firefighters were battling the fire using ground and air resources prompting road closures in the area.
The San Gabriel Canyon Road (SR-39) was closed in both direction with the northbound lanes shut-off at San Sierra Madre Avenue and the southbound lanes closed at East Fork Road.
The effort to contain the fire is expected to last into the night.
