Azusa: Ranch Fire Grows To 3,000 Acres Overnight
08.13.2020 | 2:45 PM | AZUSA – The Ranch Fire grew to over 3,000 and came dangerously close to homes, Friday morning.
The fire was dubbed the “Ranch Fire” after it broke out near the intersection of North San Gabriel Canyon Road and North Ranch Road around 2:45 PM on Thursday.
By 4:30 PM the fire had grown to about 600 acres. But by early Friday morning the fire had exploded to over 3,000 acres with no containment reported.
Residents in the Mountain Cove area, south of Highwood Court, were under mandatory evacuation orders as the blaze burned uphill towards the homes.
Video showed the flames coming dangerously close to homes but the hard work of firefighters appeared to pay off and no homes were destroyed.
Firefighters were battling the fire using ground and air resources prompting road closures in the area.
The San Gabriel Canyon Road (SR-39) was closed in both direction with the northbound lanes shut-off at San Sierra Madre Avenue and the southbound lanes closed at East Fork Road.
The effort to contain the fire is ongoing.
