AZ DPS Deploy Grappler Device To Stop Pursuit

LOCATION: I-10 Eastbound & Baseline Road

DETAILS:

  1. According to DPS radio traffic:
  2. DPS troopers were temporarily shutting down the I-10 near Avondale Boulevard to assist a disabled motorist just before midnight.
  3. As troopers shut down the eastbound I-10 a Toyota RAV4 drove through the closure.
  4. Troopers attempted to stop the car, however the vehicle did not yield to troopers and continued driving.
  5. A pursuit was initiated as the car continued East on the I-10.
  6. Troopers deployed several spike strips along the I-10, eventually successfully hitting the tires near the US-60.
  7. A trooper was able to deploy a Grappler Police Bumper on the vehicle causing it to become disabled near Baseline Road.
  8. I-10 was temporarily closed as negotiations with the driver to surrender began.
  9. The driver was eventually taken into custody and the interstate was reopened.
