Armed Suspect Dead Following Officer Involved Shooting

According to Phoenix Police, officers were tracking a speeding vehicle and attempted at traffic stop. The vehicle refused to stop and the Phoenix Police air unit began following it. The vehicle led officers to area near 63rd Ave and McDowell Rd. That is when the suspect exited the vehicle and approached a stopped occupied vehicle while armed with a handgun. That is when the officer involved shooting occurred. Officers approached the suspect, secured his firearm and took him into custody. Officers provided medical aid until firefighters arrived. Once on scene, firefighters transported the suspect to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Multiple detectives are currently on scene investigating the incident. The investigation is expected to last several hours. McDowell Road is closed between 59th and 67th Avenues as detectives investigate.
