Armed Suicidal Subject Barricades in Southpoint Casino Hotel Room

DETAILS:
- LVMPD officers were investigating an armed suicidal subject who was barricaded in a Southpoint Casino Hotel room.
- A SWAT team is on the scene.
- This incident progressed into an Officer Involved Shooting, and the subject was shot and is in unknown condition.
- No officers have reported injured.
- The Southpoint Security team was performing a welfare check on a guest staying in the hotel. Once the security guard made entry, they heard what sounded like a gun being racked, backed out of the room, and called Metro.
- Metro officers arrived on the scene and tried to coax the subject out of the room, but they were unsuccessful. The officers then deemed the situation a barricade, and Metro’s SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiators were summoned to the scene. Again, officers tried to coax the subject out of the room, but they were unsuccessful.
- At some point, the subject then charged officers with a long gun in hand. Officers gave verbal commands to drop the weapon, and the subject refused. Ultimately, officers were forced to fire one round that struck the subject. As officers attempted to aid the subject,t they found a second weapon. The subject was pronounced deceased on the scene.
