Armed Intruder Killed After Homeowner Fires Back
At approximately 10:23 p.m. on June 5, 2026, deputies with the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station responded to the 1300 block of Heron Way regarding an assault with a deadly weapon.
Upon arrival, deputies located evidence of a shooting and found a male suffering from gunshot wounds. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to investigators, the homeowner was visiting a neighboring residence when he heard screaming and gunfire coming from his home. The homeowner returned and reportedly discovered an unknown male intruder inside the residence armed with a shotgun.
Authorities said the homeowner armed himself and confronted the suspect. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly fired multiple rounds at the homeowner, who returned fire and struck the intruder.
No additional injuries were reported during the shooting.
Investigators later identified the deceased suspect as 45 year-old Ismael Martinez of San Jacinto. During the investigation, detectives learned Martinez had allegedly assaulted his 52 year-old girlfriend with a knife prior to the incident.
The woman was located inside a vehicle near South Kirby Street suffering from injuries and was transported to a hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, investigators found no indication that Martinez or his girlfriend had any connection to the residence on Heron Way.
The case remains under investigation and will be submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for review.
