Arizona DPS Trooper Involved Shooting CAUGHT ON CAMERA

- According to DPS radio traffic:
- Just after 1:50 Sunday morning troopers were notified of a 911 caller behind a white older model sedan driving recklessly eastbound on the loop 202.
- The caller then advised that the vehicle turned South onto the L-101 towards University Drive.
- The vehicle hit the center divider before coming to a stop in the HOV lane.
- Troopers arrived and pulled behind the car and attempted to make contact with the driver.
- Troopers became concerned the driver would attempt to drive away from the scene given his behavior.
- A second trooper arrived and positioned his unmarked patrol car in front of the suspect to prevent him from fleeing.
- Troopers repeatedly asked the driver to exit the vehicle, but he refused.
- Troopers decided to utilize a pepper-ball gun to coerce the driver into exiting his vehicle.
- Pepper balls were deployed and the suspect continued to barricade himself in his vehicle.
- Additional resources including a Tempe Police officer with a ballistic shield were called to the scene to aid in the barricade situation.
- As the Tempe officer arrived, the driver began accelerating into the back of the unmarked Tahoe.
- Troopers approached the passenger side door and broke the window before opening fire on the driver.
- Officers deployed a drone to survey the vehicle and determine if the suspect was still moving inside of the vehicle.
- Eventually a police K9 was deployed into the vehicle.
- The driver was removed from the car and pronounced dead by Tempe Fire.
