Anaheim: Pregnant Woman Killed, Baby Critically Injured By Repeat DUI Suspect

08.12.2020 | 7:30 PM | ANAHEIM – A pregnant 23-year-old woman was killed and her baby critically injured after being struck by a suspected repeat DUI driver who plowed into them on a sidewalk, Tuesday evening.

The crash involving a pedestrian was reported in the 1500 block of Katella Avenue, near Bayless Street, around 7:30 PM.

Units arriving on scene located a 23-year-old woman who had been walking on the sidewalk with her husband when a white Jeep SUV jumped a curb and crashed into her.

The 23-year-old woman was 35-weeks pregnant and in grave condition but authorities rushed her to UCI Medical Center in an effort to save her baby.

Medical professionals were able to perform a caesarean section on the woman to deliver her baby but the mother was later pronounced deceased.

The baby was admitted to UCI Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care unit in critical condition.

The driver of the Jeep that struck the pregnant woman was identified as 40-year-old Courtney Pandolfi of Garden Grove.

Pandolfi was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries and later placed under arrest on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving on a suspended license and DUI.

Police say Pandolfi has two previous DUI convictions and that charges may be updated to include murder as a result.
